What does a Welding Engineer do?

Welding engineers are responsible for developing welding techniques and procedures. They are critical to make sure welds on equipment, pipelines and in the field are applied to domestic and international standards. They must be fluent with standard weld systems (both semi-automatic and automatic). In many projects, they’re responsible for programming, developing and training robotic welding systems.

Senior welding engineers are expected to supervise and mentor junior engineers. They’re accountable for productivity and cost savings, as well as reporting on the development of junior engineers.

What education does a Welding Engineer need?

Welding engineers don't need any formal education. Time spent apprenticing Welders or experience in the military are usually required.
